Footprints…This photo is one that we took less than a year ago when Talia was feeling great. The highs and lows in her life since last June have been breathtaking. Our prayers are with Talia and her family during this difficult time. The …following is a press release that we have been asked to share with you…NEWS RELEASE
Cancer patient Talia wants to leave her “footprints” at Base Camp

Talia Joy Castellano has been fighting cancer for nearly 7 years and last August she was told she has a new second kind of cancer. The 13 year old was already a YouTube sensation with her makeup tutorials. When she delivered the news about this new form of cancer, she said, “Life is like a journey. It has a beginning, a middle and an end. And I guess my journey is nearing the end.” This video went viral and Talia went from 25,000 YouTube subscribers to over a half a million in addition to 100,000 Facebook likes, 1 Million Instagram followers and 60,000 Twitter followers.

Talia has continued to do her makeup videos and do cancer updates. She has enjoyed all the opportunities that she was able to in the last few months. Through it all, she has continued to be her spunky, sassy self. When Talia appeared on The Ellen Show, she was asked how does she keep her spirits up? Her answer; “A little fish once told me, just keep swimming.”

A couple of weeks ago, new scans revealed that her cancer has spread throughout her bones and it is giving her a lot of pain. She has been on IV pain medication to help. While Talia is now out of treatment options, she is still living her life and wants to make sure that she leaves her “footprints and fingerprints” on the world.

She still has a lot of dreams and one of them is to help children and families who are battling cancer. Talia’s favorite charity is the BASE Camp Children’s Cancer Foundation. Talia wants to help Base Camp have a permanent home, so she is launching a fundraising campaign called “Bring Hope Home” to raise $100,000. Talia intends to leave her legacy, and one way is by helping BASE Camp. The donation site is: http://www.indiegogo.com/projects/bring-hope-home.

About BASE Camp Children’s Cancer Foundation: BASE Camp website is www.basecamp.org and Facebook page is www.facebook.com/BaseCampRocks . For over 30 years, BASE Camp, has been providing financial support, recreation, food and transportation to over 12,000 families battling childhood cancer.

Yesterday I joined Gabriella and her mom as they donated their hair at Radiance Salon in Leesburg, VA. The salon also treated them to mani-pedis and played French music to honor Gabriella’s upcoming Wish trip to Paris. Bon voyage Gabriella!

Today we celebrate with the Sherwood family as Billy turned 6 years old today. He was diagnosed with cancer in 2008 at …13 months old. Today he is a happy, healthy kid but still very much in the fight. Dena and her family take nothing for granted because they have been on the front lines of this battle for so long. So please pray that Billy remains cancer-free permanently. Also please pray for all children who are fighting cancer now and for those who have passed away. Thank you.

The Emmy® Award is the premier television production award presented… in various sectors of the television industry, including entertainment programming, news and documentary shows, and sports programming.

Mike Gillette received two nominations: one for his role as Director and one as the film’s Editor. Taylor Klein was nominated as Producer in the Documentary Category. The National Capital Region awards gala is June 15, 2013 at the Baltimore Harbor.

The Truth 365 is a documentary that gives a voice to children fighting cancer. The film was released in December 2012 and has the support of over 100 childhood cancer foundations.
When we recently posted about PTSD, the response was overwhelming. Dena, founder of Arms Wide Open Childhood Cancer Foundation and The Truth 365, recognized a huge need and immediately went to work to find a way to help. Tonight we are prou…d to announce that Arms Wide Open and The Cancer Center at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia have joined forces! Together we’re developing a series of interactive webinars for families impacted by pediatric cancer.

We want to be sure that the topics we focus on are those that will be most helpful to the patient, siblings and caregivers who are looking for support. By filling out this short survey, you can help us create events that will answer your questions, address your concerns, and hopefully, give you a place to make valuable connections with others. Remember, this is for YOU so please let us know your thoughts.

https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/MRVQQHJ

We will kick our Webinar Series off in September, Childhood Cancer Awareness Month. Due to the many responses to our post relating to PTSD on The Truth 365, our first webinar will be discussing Post Traumatic Stress Disorder and Post Traumatic Growth as it relates to post-cancer caregivers.See More
